We are endeavouring to inform as many people as possible that weka live at Kawakawa Bay. One way we thought of bringing weka to the attention of holiday makers as well as the locals was to transform the ugly toilet block on Whitford Point, which is between the two main bays, with a beautiful weka mural.
Here is the proposed design for the mural for the right hand side of the wall. There may be a slight rearrangement of the chicks around the adult so they are not all in a line like ducklings.
We plan to extend the beach and sea theme across to the second half wall on the left of the toilet block.
WekaWatch and the artist are ready to start work as soon as we get the OK from the Board and we expect to have it completed before the end of the school holidays. Sooner if the weather cooperates.
